Being nice to the planet is cool! 

I was born in Costa Rica and spent my childhood between Canada and Costa Rica.  I now spend the majority of my time in Costa Rica. Costa Rica provides the perfect training ground for competitive surfing. The waves are amazing and the competitors push me to be the best that I can be. I am a true waterman and have also started my own kayak fishing business in order to help support my professional surfing journey.  I have been competing in Costa Rica since I was 10, and this year at 17 began my journey in the WSL.  I absolutely love surfing, fishing and anything to do with the ocean. I've grown up and live in the beautiful Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica.  Brisa Hennessy is also from my community and learned to surf here as well. Our fathers are both fisherman and the foundation of our surfing began in Matapalo. I have been traveling a lot during 2021 and 2022 to compete in both ALAS and WSL events. 

Empece a surfear a los 9años amo mi país y surfear todo el día ,estuve en el mundial 2019 en Huntintong beach ,compitiendo en sub 16 , en el mundial de el salvador 2022 compitiendo en sub 16 y sub 18 , también en Brazil compitiendo en sub 18 ,soy campeona centroamerica 2021 junior y open mujeres y e estado haciendo los nacionales de Estados Unidos en los cuales obtuve un primer lugar en open girls y un 3er lugar en Open woman's

I'm a Carbon Nuetral Athlete that offsets my Carbon Footprint through a non-profit based in the southern zone of Costa Rica(Community Carbon Trees). I own a biofarm with my grandfather that has over 1000 trees that raise super foods. I grew up in a small surf town with a really heavy beach break and would bounce back and forth between Playa Dominical and Pavones(Second Longest Left)  I am a trained Lifeguard and waterfall tour guide  Started surfing when I was 8 and got hooked in Pavones. My first coaches were southern pacific legends, Leon Glatzer and NoeMar Mcgonagle. 

Me llamo Mikela, tengo 10 años, soy Costarricense, vengo de la provincia de Limón, de barrio Cieneguita y mi playa Cieneguita.  Mi sueño es ser campeona mundial ISA, llegar a las olimpiadas, ser veterinaria y ser una persona que inspira a otras a ser mejor.
