ISA Supervisor Instructor Award

The ISA Coaching and Instructing Program is pleased to announce the rollout of a new ISA Supervisor Instructor award.

The role of an ISA Supervisor Instructor is to supervise the practical hours of instructors in training and ensure the ISA competencies are applied correctly. Supervisor Instructors will be listed in a directory on the ISA Website to enable course participants to search for suitably qualified ISA Supervisor Instructors in their region.

Prerequisites:

  • ISA certified for at least two (2) years
  • Surf school manager or head coach preferred
  • Desire to supervise and mentor new ISA coaches and instructors and ensure they achieve the ISA competencies

How to Become an ISA Supervisor Instructor:

  • Apply via the ISA Website: CLICK HERE TO APPLY
  • Approval by ISA to become an ISA Supervisor Instructor based on your application
  • Participation in ISA Supervisor Instructor Training Cohort (approximately 2.5 hour webinar session)
  • Submission of one trainee coaches’ supervised practical hours and other post-course steps to successful completion of the award (reviewed and confirmed by Cohort Training Lead)

To maintain status:

  • ISA will send an annual survey to ISA Supervisor Instructors to receive feedback and understand frequency and quality of supervision
  • Feedback from trainees will also be received and reviewed to maintain status as a supervisor coach
  • Ideal setting: coaches are supervised while working during lessons at a surf school
  • Defined compensation for supervising coaches in a non-surf school setting:– maximum $25 USD per session to supervise
