I have been practicing stand up paddle surfing for more than 10 years. I competed in the first ISA World Cup that was held in La Pampilla in Peru and I end up in 4th position.

I am Giannisa Vecco, a 43-year-old mother of two girls aged 13 and 22, and I grew up in Pucallpa, a city on the side of the Ucayali River in the Amazon jungle of eastern Peru. Growing up in the jungle, I was limited in the sports I could play, but I competed a few times in school basketball.

In 2012 I got to know hockey through a friend, that's when I started training as a goalkeeper at the San Silvestre Sport Club and I became a national team member in this sport.

I represented Peru in the South American 2013, in the Bolivarian Games 2013 (I won a silver medal) and in the Panam Challenge 2015.

It wasn't until the summer of 2014 that I saw a SUP board for the first time in Punta Hermosa; and I became curious about the sport. What started as a way to have fun with my family on the beach, quickly turned into something competitive when I saw that there was going to be an 18km race near my house (not knowing that it was a pre-selection for a world championship).

I showed up to the race on my board, surrounded by paddlers with racing boards. While the other paddlers looked at my choice of boat strangely, I ignored them and finished second in the women's category. My family and friends could not believe it. Two weeks later, the SURF Federation contacted me and asked me to go to the 2014 World Championship race in Nicaragua. I started with a SUP Yoga board and ended up representing Peru in the World Championship; and at the moment I have already competed in three editions. (this is the 4 ) 

Since that day on the beach, I am a four-time national champion, a silver medallist at the 2014 Bolivarian Beach Games and a double bronze medallist at the South American Beach Games Rosario 2019. In addition, I got a third place in one of the stages of the 2018 World Tour in New York and I was sixth in the Pan American Games Lima 2019. I managed to qualify for the SUP World Tour 2021 and 2022; my goal for 2022 is to qualify for the Pan American Games Santiago 2023. 

So far this year I have achieved 4th place in the US Open and I am runner-up in the Aloha Spirit Brazil Circuit in technical races.

My biggest dream is to be SUP world champion.
