I was born and raised in Costa Rica. After graduating high school in San Jose I attended University in British Columbia, Canada. I moved to Hawaii after completing my degree and started working at Kukio Golf and Beach Club. SUP had just started and I learned how to paddle and got hooked. I entered some local races and had success and was invited to race the inaugural Battle of the Paddle in 2008. I won the race which catapulted me into my SUP career. I followed up the BOP win with a win at the 2009 Molokai to Oahu race, to date my proudest racing accomplishment. In 2010, Morgan Hoesterey and I paddled all of the channels in Hawaii to raise awareness against plastics in the ocean. I spent 2010-2015 traveling around the world competing in a variety of events. 2013 was a highlight year with close runner-up finishes at Carolina Cup, Molokai 2 Oahu and the Battle of the Paddle. My son was born in 2017 and I've spent the last 5 years enjoying watching him grow up. Training looks different now with my son and a full time job (I'm the manager of Outdoor Pursuits at Kukio) but it's been awesome getting back into it. It's been 6 years since my last competitive event but I'm excited to be back, I've missed the community!
