I am married to Lucy Te Moananui who has been to the ISA worlds on the NZ team previously, and have two fantastic daughters and two awesomely cute grand-daughters! I have had a huge amount of support from my home town and both surf shops have really helped me out. I am a huge advocate for the advancement of Te Reo, the indigenous language of New Zealand and the culture of the Maori - I descend from Ngati Tamatera & Ngai Tahu (Two tribes- one in the North Island & one in the South Island of NZ) My last name Te Moananui means The Big Ocean in English. (Te = The Moana = Ocean Nui = Big)

I have been training in winter conditions for the last 5 months in the South Island of NZ, 9 degrees Celsius, snow and frost on the beach, bone chillingly brisk offshores!
