Representing the American Samoa Surf Team, Kahia Walker is a longboard surfer known for his deep connection to the ocean. Raised in Laʻie, Hawaiʻi with family roots in Tutuila through his grandfather, Kahia carries the values of fa‘a Samoa—fa‘aaloalo (respect), tautua (service), and alofa (love)—into every wave he rides.
His longboarding style is a harmonious fusion of strength and control, reflecting the rhythm and discipline of fa‘a Samoa—grounded in community, humility, and resilience.
Beyond surfing, Kahia is an ongoing crew member of Hōkūleʻa, sailing as part of the Moananuiākea Voyage—a journey dedicated to connecting Pacific communities and protecting our shared ocean. He has also crewed aboard the Cook Islands’ waka Marumaru Atua, voyaging 21 days from Hawaiʻi to Rarotonga. These experiences have deepened his respect for the ocean and the ancestral knowledge that continues to guide Pacific wayfinders today.
For Kahia, surfing is more than a sport—it’s an extension of his identity and a way to honor his heritage, his ʻāiga, and the ocean that connects us all.

I am the first female surfer to represent American Samoa in the ISA. In addition to surfing, I spend a lot of time with my family and giving back to the community. I am a student at the University of West Oahu and am majoring in Political Science.
