I started surfing in 2018, I met Benjamin Clifford whilst working as a lifeguard, he approached me and asked if I had ever surfed or considered surfing. I had only previously surfed once on a school trip when I was 13 and as supportive as my dad usually is he wasn't up for carrying boards across the sand and standing in the cold on a regular basis. Ben then told me all about Surfability and encouraged me to come down and try it out. I was hooked immediately and luckily I have very strong friends, Ryan Evans (Evzo), Matt Willaims (Pongo) and Jack Smith, who carry my board as well as their own and help me feel like a regular surfer going surfing with their friends, without all this support from all of Surfability and my friends I wouldn't be able to get in the sea so I would like to thank them all very much! I would also like to thank Penyrheol Comprehensive School for giving me the time off work to compete and to all the staff and pupils who wished me luck!

Born and raised in Abersoch, North Wales. I started surfing when i was 12 with the local Youthclub and got hooked!! I lost my leg above the knee at 16 after having been struck down by a car while longboarding (skateboarding), in September 2011 and shockingly recovered and made it home before Christmas! Suffered injuries were collapsed lungs, shattered pelvis , split liver and right leg amputation. Now surf in a drop knee position trying out different boards and new styles  I currently work as a plant operator for our family business. Have a 7 year old son Called Jac Rhys. Started competing in adaptive surfing for the first time in 2016 and placed 5th in the ISA world champs. Since then i have competed in 23 competitions and have had 22 podium finishes. Including 4 times english adaptive champion, And the winner at the first ever Bali Pro. Recently became the US Adaptive surfing champion in my devision, along with winning the Huntington Beach ASL in the kneeling and amputee devisions.  My top fan and crazy supporter also my board caddy is my fiancee Sarah.    I also organized the first ever adaptive surfing championships to be held at a wave pool that was also the fist ever adaptive competition to happen in Wales at Surf Snowdonia. I have secured a 3 year sponsor from The Mailing room to run the event again in 2022, 2023 and 2024.  Recently have been sponsored by The mailing room, Surfability and O'Neill. I started the clothing brand Hopalong clothing with the aim of hopefully in a few years being able to sponsor other disabled people to get them to try new sports and achieve their goals. At the start of October this year (2021) I organised a taster session for disabled people like my self to try surfing out in the North Wales area, with the help of Surfability UK we got them in the water in safe hands.
