I consider myself a super happy person and always with a smile for all people. A disability will not prevent us from realizing our dreams, on the contrary, from the day we acquire it, we will become stronger. I love surfing and I am very happy that the International Surf Association will support me with the scholarship this year since I have been able to improve my surfing despite having only two years of falling in love with this beautiful sport.  PURA VIDA! 

I love surfing. It has changed my life in a positive way. Since I began surfing I take more care about my physical and mental health, I eat better and exercise more. Surfing improved snd balanced my life.

I love traveling too. The world is big and life is short. I enjoy wandering and getting lost in new places, getting to know people, culture and food.

I am antropologist, and I also study biology. I'm 26 years old and I'm blind since I was 2 years old, and I love it. For me surfing is one of the best ways we have to show to people with dishabilities that we are able to be autonomous, no mother how big this wave could be. That's why adaptive surfing for me is activism.

Aprendí a surfear desde los 7 años, mi hermano y yo surfeabamos, amarrados al bote de mi papá con una tabla para alcanzar las olas..

Soy persona perseverante, después de mi accidente surfeaba  de rodillas, luego construí mi propia prótesis para poder competir de pie.. estoy listo para ganar una medalla .. entreno mucho y practico otras disciplinas como montan bike para reforzar mi surfing.

Hola mi nombre es. Landy Jimena Ruiz Rojas, tengo15 anos,soy de costa rica vivo en Nosara y me gusta mucho el surf y el dibujo. tengo 2 hermanos. una hemana de 8 anos ,Celeste y un hermano de 12, Gustavo, los cuales tambien surfean. mi papa se llama Helberth y mi mama Maricruz.

A mi, me gustaria que,el publico y las personas, supieran mas del surf adaptado como deporte para olimpico

I was born in Costa Rica, my parents teached me how to swim in the ocean when I was really young and since then I've been in love with the ocean. I started to Surf in School and I went with my friends every weekend because I live in the city of San Jose and it's like two hours from the nearest beach. 




I surfed on a beach named Playa Esterillos, it's a beautiful place with a lot of waves and nice people. When I finished School I lived on a beach named Bahia Ballena, and there I knew I wanted to teach adventure sports like diving, kayaking and surfing. 




So I went back to San Jose and studied in the University of Costa Rica, Physical Education and then got my Master in Recreation. 




In 2006 I had my accident and that's how I got my disability. A person tried to rob my car and he shot me two times, affecting my medulla and that's why I have a paraplejia T10 T 12. All my friends and family knew it was going to be a big change in my life, but I will continue with my dreams and life.




I started my recovery swimming, and after some months training I could represent my country in the parapanamericanos in Brazil in 2007. After that I went again to the ocean making what I love most in life SURFING. First in Prone Position and then I met Alana Nichols and she told me about the waveski. I told her that in Costa Rica nobody does that, but I wanted to learn and be the first participant in Costa Rica to represent my country. Know i love my sport, everyday's a challenge and something different to learn.




At this moment im fifth in my category sit on top and this year i'm going to get my first medal for my country and for all the work that I have done with passion and dedication.
