I am a surfer from the Alentejo coast, in Portugal, who has been surfing for some years and with 38 years of age I started competing. My first competition was at ISA STANCE ADAPTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP, in 2018. In 2019 I took 2nd place at EURO ADAPTIVE SURFING, in Viana do Castelo, Portugal.

At the age of 18, Nuno Vitorino suffered an accident with a fire arm that left him quadriplegic but who found in what appeared to be the worst day of his life, an open door to a better life. Having done bodyboarding since he was 12, the accident put Nuno in a wheelchair and made him go 10 years without surfing. However, the capacity for self-improvement was stronger and, currently, at 44 years old, Nuno is a Paralympic athlete (swimming in 2004) and represents the Portuguese Surf Team in the Adapted Surf championships around the world, being the current champion of Europe.

I started surfing four years ago and, since the first time I stood up on a surfboard, I realized that surfing was what I wanted to do. Since that day in 2017, the sport has been improving my life in many ways: physically, mentally and socially. Today, I can’t imagine my life without surfing.
