My name is David Leão, I've been paddling since I was 10 years old and I'm part of the sic Maui global team.
I was born on the south coast of Bahia in Brazil and I come from an island family in a culture where my grandfather was a fisherman and my grandmother was a cook at a beach restaurant.
I've already won a bronze medal in the Isa world championships and now I'm confident without being the next world champion because in 2017 I was in Copenhagen at 15 years old participating in my first world championship and now being able to return to that place is very special, I hope I can do this feat here and bring the title to my family and my country.

Carla Matos began her athletic journey when she was seven years old, when she discovered her passion for swimming. From an early age, she showed talent and dedication, standing out in youth competitions and quickly earning her place among the top athletes in the sport nationwide. Throughout her career, Carla has accumulated impressive titles in Brazilian, South American, and Pan-American championships – establishing herself as one of the leading figures in Brazilian swimming. Her versatility and determination also led her to compete in open water swimming championship, where she won several national titles, reaffirming her strength and endurance across different aquatic environments. Beyond swimming, Carla expanded her athletic horizons by taking up outrigger canoeing (also known as VA’A). In this sport, she achieved remarkable results, becoming a state and national champion, and representing Brazil at the World Championship held in Tahiti in 2018. Her participation marked a new chapter in her career, showcasing her adaptability and excellence across distinct disciplines. In 2021, Carla faced one of the greatest challenges of her life when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. With courage and determination, she underwent treatment and achieved full recovery. Even after overcoming the disease, she continues with regular oncological follow-ups, remaining strong and active in sports. This experience further reinforced her dedication, resilience, and ability to overcome adversity, making her an example of strength and inspiration. This year, Carla embarked on a new sporting journey by dedicating herself to paddleboarding. Even in her first season in the category, she achieved the runner-up position at the Brazilian Championship (2024), once again demonstrating her talent and competitive spirit. In October, she was selected to represent Brazil at the ISA World Championship, to be held in El Salvador. This call-up represents the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, as paddleboarding has become a true passion in her athletic life — a sport that unites technique, balance, and connection with the sea. Her journey so far symbolizes not only athletic achievements but also a path of resilience, courage, and love for what she does. The story of Carla Matos is defined by discipline, determination, and passion for sports. Her journey inspires new generations of athletes and reinforces the power of dedication and perseverance in the pursuit of sporting excellence.
