ISA Statement: 2021 Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games: Update on COVID-19 Test Results – 4 More Cases Return 2 Negative Results

May 31st, 2021

The ISA can confirm that 7 competitors and event officials who are in the quarantine hotel were PCR tested for COVID-19 by the Health Ministry yesterday May 30th.

4 of these tests were negative.  Of these 4 cases, 3 were athletes and 1 was a team official.  All were therefore allowed to leave the quarantine hotel.

According to our protocol, these 4 cases were retested again last night, and the results came back this morning negative.

As a result, all of these individuals are automatically allowed to return to the competition.

Regarding the 3 individuals remaining in the quarantine hotel under the control of the El Salvador government, they will continue to be tested daily.  They will remain quarantined until they produce a negative test.

The ISA is taking this action and publishing this information because it prioritizes the health and well-being of all athletes, officials and coaches at its events. We are also providing this information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.

No specific details regarding the teams or individuals who have tested positive will be published. The ISA will make further COVID-19 statements after additional rounds of testing are completed.
