Alelí was chosen “Athlete of the Year” at the 2023 National Puerto Rican Day Parade. She has total blindness in her left eye and partial blindness in her right eye. This has not been an obstacle in achieving all that she sets out to do. Her parents Benjamín “Ricky” Medina and Idalia Suárez are surfers and have been teaching her to surf since she was very young. She trains daily with her father, who is her coach and spotter. At just 14 years of age, an extraordinary and bright future awaits this "Boricua". Apart from surfing, another facet of Alelí's is the practice of Karate and Jiu Jitsu. Alelí has been taking dance classes since she was 6 years old. This has been of great benefit for her growth, she has developed positively thanks to rhythm and movement. Alelí is a cheerful, empathetic, sweet, loving young girl who loves making new friends. She is a young woman with great love for life and for everything she does. She is a great example of overcoming and inspiring everyone. She is an exemplary example that there are no limits in achieving anything you set out to do in life.
