2024 ISA World Para Surfing Championship Announced for November in Huntington Beach, California

May 31st, 2024

World’s best para surfers return to Surf City USA November 3-9, 2024

Cardiff, USA – May 31, 2024

The 9th edition of the ISA World Para Surfing Championship (WPSC) will return to Huntington Beach, California, November 3-9, 2024.

Presented by Visit Huntington Beach, the highly successful and record-breaking 2023 edition of the event was held in Huntington Beach for the first time and featured some of the best performances ever seen in Para Surfing competition, including a perfect 10 from 3-time Winter and Summer Paralympic Gold Medalist Alana Nichols (USA). Visit Huntington Beach will return as the Presenting Sponsor.

Over 180 athletes representing 27 national teams competed across 9 different Para Surfing Sport Classes in 2023 and the 2024 WPSC will no doubt see more records broken as the ISA furthers its mission to see Para Surfing included in the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

Para Surfing is currently under consideration with the Los Angeles 2028 Organizing Committee (LA28) and in January 2023 the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board confirmed that Para Surfing has demonstrated the competitive viability and integrity of the sport, as well as the strategic benefits to the Paralympic Games.

Para Surfing has experienced incredible growth since the first ISA World Para Surfing Championship in 2015 (originally titled the World Adaptive Surfing Championship). During that period, the ISA has continued to refine the Para Surfing Classification system in line with IPC requirements and encouraged its network of 116 member nations to host national and regional competitions.

Huntington Beach has an incredible legacy with surfing, having hosted many major events across the history of the sport. The 2024 ISA World Para Surfing Championship will be the ninth major ISA event held in Surf City USA after the city hosted four editions of the ISA World Surfing Games in 1984, 1996, 2006, and 2022, the ISA World Juniors in 2005, 2018 and 2019 and the ISA WPSC in 2023.
