10 Things to Know About the 2025 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship

November 9th, 2025

The 2025 ISA World SUP and Paddleboard Championship (WSUPPC) is set to gather the world’s best SUP and Paddleboard athletes in Surf City El Salvador from November 10-15.

Here are the 10 things that you need to know about the upcoming competition.

1. The Venue

The WSUPPC returns to Surf City El Salvador six years after the nation’s surf tourism initiative hosted its first ISA event in 2019. SUP Surfing will once again take place at the now-iconic pointbreak of El Sunzal, with racing events held throughout the surrounding coastline, showcasing the stunning tropical setting of the region.

2. The Field

Over 169 athletes, representing 27 national teams, will be present in El Salvador, including defending Team World Champion Spain. Fresh off their first WSUPPC team gold in 2024, Spain returns with a powerhouse roster led by World Champions David Buil (ESP), Duna Gordillo (ESP), Judit Vergés (ESP), and Alba Frey (ESP).

3. The Chase for the Full Set

Shuri Araki (JPN) and Titouan Puyo (FRA) have each already claimed SUP Technical Race and SUP Distance Race gold medals in their careers. In El Salvador, both have the opportunity to complete their gold medal collection with a win in the SUP Sprint, the final discipline each needs to achieve a full sweep of WSUPPC racing titles.

4. Returning World Champions

Beyond the athletes already mentioned, the event will also welcome a deep field of former World Champions across surfing and racing. Multi-time gold medalists Luiz Diniz (BRA), Lucía Cosoleto (ARG), Yurika Horibe (JPN), and Cecilia Pampinella (ITA) headline the returning field, joined by Christian Andersen (DEN), Mélanie Lafenetre (FRA), Max Torres (PUR), Benoit Carpentier (FRA), and Csillag Virág Kocsis (HUN), who are all looking to add to their gold medal counts.
