Collaboration to provide training in surf judging and instruction to youth around the world
Mar del Plata, Argentina – July 12, 2024
A unique collaboration has been launched between the international governing body of surfing, the International Surfing Association (ISA), and Schloas Occurrentes, the international educational movement.
ISA President Fernando Aguerre and Head of Scholas Jose Maria del Corral, signed the collaboration agreement today at a special ceremony in “Escuela de Mar y Playa” in Mar del Plata to commemorate the two organizations partnering.
The partnership is in conjunction with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who joined with Scholas to launch the Sea and Beach School in Argentina, Mozambique, Portugal and El Salvador as a part of Olympism365, their “Sports, Education and Livelihoods” portfolio.
Schloas Occurrentes’ mission is to generate an inclusive, intercultural education oriented towards the construction of peace. The organization created a global network of schools that work together to give young people a voice and become active agents of change in their communities with a number of programs and initiatives, including creating classrooms without walls, teacher training, intercultural exchanges and online educational resources.
The ISA will provide training in surf judging and surf instruction for participants from Scholas’ programs across these nations, and others, which include young people of diverse socio-cultural and economic backgrounds.
ISA President, Fernando Aguerre said:
“The mission of the ISA is to create a better world through surfing. What better way to further that mission than through empowering the youth. In conjunction with the IOC, Scholas have created an incredible program, centered around surfing. It is our pleasure to support this in such a fundamental and practical way that will not only educate, but hopefully inspire the youth of the world.”
