  • Travel Requirements to USA

Please review important information for Travel to the USA regarding Visas and the CDC’s requirements for COVID-19 Vaccination to travel to the USA which goes into effect November 8th: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/proof-of-vaccination.html#faq

The ISA is liaising with the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) on travel assistance for this event so please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] with any questions or for assistance with travel to the USA.

    Visas:
Do you require a Visa to enter the USA: Yes or No

To determine if you require a visa to travel to the United States, please refer to the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s visa handbook. Please note, if you are from a Visa Waiver Program country, you may qualify for an ESTA. To apply for ESTA, please visit https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/.

If Yes, please request a letter of invitation from the ISA and consider:

      1. Is this your first time applying for a visa?
      2. Did you have a visa that expired within the last 48 months?  If yes, you may qualify for an interview waiver.

Note: If you require a visa to travel to the United States, it is recommended that you begin the application process as soon as possible. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many U.S. embassies and consulates are experiencing high demand. When scheduling your appointment, please take the soonest appointment available (even if it is after the event date and request an emergency appointment). In your emergency appointment request, please include the following language:

I am an athlete/official traveling to Pismo Beach, California to participate in the ISA World Para Surfing Championships from December 6-11, 2021.  This event gathers the world’s best Para Surfers to compete and display their talents in a Paralympic-style, World Championship competition. [A sentence about their accomplishments and/or the country’s ranking.]  It is important I can participate.

[IF SPACE: When awarding events, the ease of entry into the U.S. for events is an important factor considered by International Sport Federations.  Olympic and Paralympic Sport is a $1.5 billion industry in America.  National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) represent roughly $1.1 billion and provide support to establish and grow athletic participation. Many NGBs rely heavily on proceeds from hosting international events for revenue.  NGBs are employers and provide jobs to American workers. Providing priority access for appointments to international athletes and officials will allow events on the 2021 and 2022 calendar to move forward, maintain and rehire lost jobs for NGB workers, and drive economic benefit to local communities.]

Please notify the ISA once this is done and include your current appointment date, appointment location, and DS-160 number so that we may better assist you.

    If no:

      1. I have a valid visa
      2. I am from Visa Waiver Program Country

Negative COVID-19 Test before you arrive in the United States:

All air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens and fully vaccinated peopleare required to have a negative COVID-19 viral test result no more than 3 days before travel or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the past 3 months before they board a flight to the United States.
