Peru is the host for the 2008 ISA World Masters Surfing Championship

7 December 2007 - The 2008 ISA World Masters Surfing Championship has been confirmed. The event will be hosted by the Federación Nacional de Tabla and will take place in Punta Rocas, Peru (30 minutes from Lima, 1 hour from Lima International Airport). This is Peru's most consistent surf spot which also hosted the 1965 ISF World Championship won by Felipe Pomar.

Dates:
March 28 and 29th (Friday and Saturday): Team arrivals
March 30 (Sunday): Opening Ceremony
March 31st (Monday): Event starts
April 5th (Saturday): Finals and Awards Ceremony
April 6th (Sunday): Departure date

Those of you who sent teams to Puerto Rico already know that the ISA Masters is a wonderful and exciting event. The ISA is looking forward to an even better event with the addition of two new divisions, Grand Kahuna and Masters Women.

Teams and individual competitors will be confirmed on a first come first served basis.
Master, Grandmaster and Kahuna divisions will have a maximum of 32 competitors and Grand Kahuna and Masters Women will have a maximum of 16 competitors.

Team size and divisions are as follows:

Master 35+                  (2 competitors)
Grandmasters 40+         (2 competitors)
Kahuna 45+                 (2 competitors)
Grand Kahunas 50+       (1 competitor)
Masters Women's 35+    (1 competitor)

*Ages are taken from January 1st in the year of participation. Example: A Master surfer must be 35 years and older by January 1, 2008 in order to compete in 2008 in the Master division.

The results from the previous World Masters Surfing Championships, held in January 2007 in the great waves of Rincón, Puerto Rico, were the following:
