JUAN MATEOS

Spain

Nickname - Juano. Some friends from the Buena Onda Surf School called me like this when I started surfing

Birthplace - I was born on 11th April 1992 in Navaconcejo (Cáceres), a little village in the region of Extremadura in Spain

Favorite local surf break - My favorite waves, although I haven’t surfed them much, are the left ones in Rodiles (Asturias):very long and potent waves

Favorite surfer - My international favorite surfer is Kelly Slater, because most of the sports men (or women) who get into the top, they immediately go down. They don’t usually keep their position for a long time. Kelly Slater is a surfer who’s been in the top for many years.

Hobbies - At weekdays I play basketball in my secondary school’s team. At weekends, I go out with my friends.

Surfing goals - In a future, I hope to practice surf and travel a lot. I’d also like to compete in the world wide circuit, being conscious that it’s very difficult.

Favorite school subject - My favorite subject is Maths, because we don’t have to study a lot and the classes are enjoyable and funny.

Name of your school - Buena Onda Surf School in San Vicente de la Barquera, Cantabria (Spain).

Favorite food - First meal, spaghettis with gluttonies; second meal, croquettes and as a desert, caramel custard.

Favorite music - Reggeaton

If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would be - If I could travel anywhere in the world it would be: Maldives because of the warm water and thevariety of waves with the reef bottom so that I could improve my style of surfing.
